About
“Design is created out of necessity, the creativity in the design
is the path taken to fulfill the necessity.”
Business:
I’ve been a graphic designer for various media companies including Gannett, the largest media company in the U.S. I’ve owned and created local magazines in the past, including The Sports Report, Arizona’s first local sports magazine and Paradise Magazine, a local community magazine for the wealthiest demographics is the Southwest. My work has lead me to design advertising for more than 100 companies including Cold Stone Creamery, UPS, State Farm, California Closets and Wells Fargo. In 2008, I had the pleasure to work with Robert Kiyosaki, best known for his Rich Dad, Poor Dad series of motivational books, to design book covers and advertisements.
2002: Graduate from Collins College with a 3.8 GPA and an Associates Degree in Visual Communication
2002: Launched Arizona’s first sports magazine, The Sports Report.
2005: Joined Broker/Agent Magazine as a production coordinator and created a workflow that allowed only 4 designers and 1 editor complete 60 monthly magazines. The workflow saved Broker/Agent Magazine over $250,000 in salaries.
2006: I was hired by Gannet Media, the largest U.S. media company, as art director for their growing magazine division GPP.
2007: Launched Paradise Magazine, a high-end community magazine covering Paradise Valley, the wealthiest community in the Southwest.
Present: Currently working freelance with great companies across the country.

I have had the opportunity to work with Johnny Miguel for more than 2 years, first when we designed and produced magazines for Gannett’s magazine division and second when we raised money to fund and produce Paradise Magazine, a publication aimed at the upscale market of Paradise Valley, a resort town in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona. Johnny displays excellence in a variety of areas, including:
Artistic Talent: Johnny has designed a number of magazines, all of which are aimed at a variety of markets, and have the look to appeal to those different markets. He has designed publications in the fields of parenting, women, sports, men’s, upscale general interest, health, and custom publications for corporations. Johnny knows that magazines must be designed for the reader and not the art director. His focus has always been on the reader.
Business Skills: Johnny understands that publishing is a business. He is willing to take the bottom line into consideration on the decisions he makes, making certain that the best job can be done for the least amount of money. His business skills come from actually having to manage the art budget for his own magazine.
Interpersonal Relations: Johnny is an easy person to get along with. He is not ego-driven in his dealings with people and can “read” people and groups, which makes him an excellent person to have in presentations and meetings. If you have any more questions, feel free to contact me.
